History of the
Hughes Springs Church of Christ
In 1903, the church met in a building they share with the Antioch Baptist located halfway between Linden and Hughes Springs. The building was called the Antioch Baptist Church of Christ because the Baptist preacher, Tom Watson, a sawmill operator furnished men to help build it; and, Frank Ray, a member of the Church of Christ , also a saw mill operator, donated the land and provided the building material.

Baptist and Church of Christ services were help at different time, and any other congregations were also welcome to use the building. The building stood just east of the Concord Cemetery and in 1927, the moved to Glenwood, just north of the first building. In 1934, the Baptist bought the Church of Christ interest in the building and the Church of Christ moved to Hughes Springs. Charter members of the Church of Christ included Archie Roberson, Metta Roberson, Frank Ray, Sam Beaty, and Robert Beaty.

The Hughes Springs Church of Christ first building was rented from the Presbyterian church, and later purchased from them in 1935. The earliest converts were baptized in a railroad pond west of town until a baptistry was built in the building. Glen Hall, son of Mary Hall was the first boy baptized in the new baptistry and Sowilla Ray, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Harvey Ray was the first girl. Some of the earliest members were: Mr. & Mrs. Harvey Ray, Mr. & Mrs. Bass Daniels, Mr. & Mrs. Buddy McDaniel, Virgie McDaniel Simpson, Velma McDaniel Uhler, Curtis McDaniel, Mr. & Mrs. Hub Phillips, Mrs. B.J.
In 1962, the old building was sold and a new one erected on the corner of Fourth and Keasler, where it currently stands. In 1984, a new auditorium was added to the building.
